This week was a short week for classes. There is a Danish national holiday on Friday, and my guess is that DIS decided to give us Thursday off too so that the number of classes will be even between Monday/Thursday and Tuesday/Friday classes. Anyways…
MONDAY:
Overall, this was a rather regular Monday. I did have to get myself up early though so that I could go back to my favorite place in Copenhagen…THE BRITISH EMBASSY! Haha. I had to turn in an Administrative Review Form so that they would look at my application again and consider the reason why I feel they made a mistake in refusing my application in the first place. It was actually sort of interesting for two reasons mainly. (1) The guard now recognizes me as ‘the American’ (what a nice title). (2) He didn’t really know what I was submitting, and I had to explain it to him. Regardless, he took my form for me, and in reassurance, I received a letter on Wednesday informing me that my form is in the right hands. The guard was also nice enough and said he would attempt to inform those necessary that I am only in Denmark for 20 more days, so any means of expediting would be appreciated (who knows if that message got through though).
After that adventure, I simply made my way to DIS to attend my classes for the remainder of the day and get some work done. We actually had a guest lecturer in my marketing class from Microsoft, which was pretty interesting. He shared with us a little bit about Microsoft’s efforts to launch Windows 7. Additionally, he introduced us to their new product, which can be used through XBOX. It is this absolutely ridiculous body movement recognition device where the gaming system then functions similar to a Wii, however there are no remotes involved. You should check it out (Go to YouTube.com and search “Project Natal”, it should be the first thing that come up).
TUESDAY:
This day began my assessments for the week. I had a quiz in Danish and a presentation in my Leadership class. I think overall, they both went well. I was a little worried about them because I hadn’t studied as much as I normally would.
After classes, I then made my way home, stopping at the grocery store on the way. I had offered (for the first time, if you can believe it) to cook dinner for my host family. I made two of (what I consider to be) my specialities – ratatouille and parmesan-oatmeal crusted chicken. I had a little difficulty finding all my ingredients (no squash or parmesan cheese ☹), luckily I managed to find substitutes where necessary. Overall, everything turned out really well in my mind. I think my host family enjoyed it too!
WEDNESDAY:
I went to school in the morning to meet up with my international marketing group to discuss more about our progress on our 30 pages marketing report that is due in a week. I think we are making good progress on it, however I know that a lot of minor things will probably come up last minute.
However, the big event for the day occurred in the afternoon. I had my first FINAL! It was about three hours of writing about the European business environment. Like my other two assessments, I was a little worried about it going in because I felt like I hadn’t studied as much as I should have, however coming out of it, I felt rather comfortable with the finished product. I am very curious to know how I did though because this final was worth 30% of my final grade for that class. It is definitely exciting (and a little surreal) to know that I have finished one of my classes for the semester, and the others are seriously wrapping up.
One really cool thing, which would never happen in the US, is that as a congratulatory gift, the DIS business program gave each business two free drinks at a local bar right after our final was over. I managed to consume one and gave my second one to someone else. I am currently a little sick and didn’t think I could manage too much alcohol.
After that I simply headed home to relax for the rest of the evening. I managed to get a few little tasks completed, but I mostly just watched TV and caught up on the new episode of Glee.
THURSDAY:
Today was a very relaxing day. I started by taking my time waking up (although I still woke up earlier than necessary – I think the fact that it is light outside at 5:30 is causing this problem). However, I decided to stay in bed and catch up on the new episode of Bones. I then stayed around the house for the remainder of the day. I went for a short run, showered, packed (I am going to Bornholm tonight for the long weekend with DIS), managed to get a little bit of school work done, and now I am catching up on my blog and writing this very sentence… I think now I need to stop though, since I am catching the bus in 10 minutes and probably should make sure that I have everything packed. I’ll let you know how my trip goes when I get back ☺
