4.17-18.10 – Relaxing Weekend

This weekend ended up being much more relaxing than initially intended. This is mainly because I was supposed to go on a rock climbing trip in Sweden on Sunday, which had to be cancelled because our guide was stuck in London due this mess with the volcanic ash. However with that trip being postponed, it meant that I didn’t have to be quite as productive on Saturday and could spread my work over the weekend.

Saturday was relatively uneventful. I took my time waking up, did some of my more basic homework, and watched a movie (The Prince & Me where I garnered some insight on how ironic this movie actual is). Then around 4:00, I headed out on my hour and a half journey to go to one of my friend’s (Gillian) house for dinner with her and her host parents. It was actually a lot of fun to see where someone else in a host family lives and what their situation is like. Like me, she has had only positive experiences with her host parents (she is also the 5th student they have hosted – like me – so they have some experience). The one thing that I thought was really considerate was that her host parents speak English practically 100% of the time when Gillian is around. It was simply nice to understand what the conversation was about at all time. I do still appreciate hearing Danish in my own host home though. Even though I cannot understand much, I think I am definitely getting used to some of the sounds and can even begin to pick out a few words that I understand here and there.

We ended up having such a nice dinner that the time passed so quickly, it was midnight before we knew it. Even though it was offered for me to stay over, I decided to make my way home; I simly like waking up in my own bed and home in the morning. It wasn’t too bad with a combination of a walk, bus ride, train, and another walk home from the station. I have definitely become accustomed to the transportation system and given way to some of its chaotic tendencies. In my mind now, as long as I can get on a bus in a direction where I know I am going or at a train station, I feel perfectly comfortable that I will eventually make my way home.

After not getting home until about 1:30 from my journey home, I ended up sleeping in until almost noon on Sunday. This definitely cut into my time to be productive, however the sleep was much needed (since I think I was still recovering from my travel break a little bit). Sunday was pretty uneventful, yet did end up being decently productive. I got a good start on a couple of my projects, which I am starting to feel pressure to get done. I am currently feeling the calm before the storm, however because in two weeks time all chaos is about to break out with a variety of projects, papers, and presentations due during the last week of class. It is also becoming additionally hard to get motivated to complete them because no one at DIS is in the mood to get work done. We all just simply want to enjoy our last weeks here and the nice weather that is finally coming with some regularity.

After a day of working and relaxing, I ended my weekend on a very good note because I finally got to talk to Tory. We kept missing each other all week because he is also becoming very busy at school with projects and papers due. Luckily, we were finally able to catch up for a little while.
