16.1.10 - Departure Day...

It is finally January 16, and I am at the Pittsburgh Airport waiting to board my first flight of the day that will take me to Dulles and on to Copenhagen. I cannot believe that this day is finally here. After months of planning, hours of packing, and countless minutes thinking about this experience, it is finally happening.

I am so excited I can hardly express it, however I must admit that last night I was flooded with emotions that I hardly knew what to think. It was a confusion of nervousness of leaving for four months, sadness that I would be away from my friends (who are all back at school together), simply missing my family, my boyfriend, and other loved ones. However this was all confronted by the fact that I am eagerly excited to be in Copenhagen: to meet my host family, see some familiar faces from Elon, start my classes and meet my professors, meet a wide variety of other students from across the country, get to know the city, figure out the network of transportation to get in to the city, the list goes on and on.

As a great friend told me this morning…if I have knots in my stomach but my head is excited, then I am ready to go. I completely agree with her.

  1. It is 8:00am here (in Pittsburgh) -- which means that is is 2:00pm there (in Copenhagen). You should have arrived there several hours ago! Enjoy your orientation, and I look forward to seeing you on Skype later! Love, Mom
